Hygge
Hygge pronounced
"hoo-gah,": Danish/ a quality of cosiness and comfort that creates
a feeling of contentment or well-being; contentment from simple pleasures, such
as warmth, food, friends, etc.
Cosy Friday
evenings,
Ensconced in the
couch,
The lustrous
warmth of candles
Scented by
citronella
Even better if it
rains outside
The dipping
Celsius relieves
Guilt in the
chocolate cake
Or the capsaicin
in the grill
The liberty of
doing nothing
Escaping into the
void
Of nihilism -
Ah! Weekend’s joy
But the frailties
of the mind
Require paradoxes
-
The ephemera of
happiness
Gives purpose to
the moment
Else how long can
this last?
There’s that many gateaux
to be had
That many hours to
be slept
That much Netflix
to chill
What irony, the sweat
of the walk
That gravel in the
shoe
Frogs in the
throat
The un-hygge of
everyday life
The sobs, the
sniffles
Rendering beauty
to the smiles,
The pointy end of
a circle
The hygge of
emptiness…
