Owl in the dark

 There it was, watching quiet

The events of a dusky end -

A powerful owl –

Its ochre quills

In the darkness gently blend

In silence, I crept

One step, two steps to its tree,

A hint of amber in those eyes

For seconds few, the world was void

Just that owl, just this me

 What piercing glance,

As if Minerva herself sent her here

Lakshmi’s envoy, in mortal lands

Time stood still, eternity

Held upon that golden stare

The first it was, I saw an owl

Humbling to see the giant bird

A privilege as if for me alone:

The rest of the world, all ignored

As it sat unseen, unknown, unheard

Mesmerised, I reached for my phone

To take a proof – our meet of chance

But Uluka would have none of it

It shook its head – this was enough

A seconds few, a single glance

It danced with the wind, disappeared

The night felt empty, even more,

Some tales are not for everyone,

Just for yourself, a fleeting dream

A song, a poem, a distant lore…

Inspired by a fleeting moment seeing a Powerful Owl in my backyard one lonesome evening
