The plane was about to start,
Leaving the city,
I had a strange realisation:
‘We missed THE bookstore.’
I said softly.
You can only smile back,
Sob to hobe na….
Chuckervertty Chatterjee & Co –
How many evenings
Had we not spent there together;
In the dusty by-lanes of College Street
Stood an ivory tower
Dilapidated, crumbling
Yet unblemished with time
In that ramshackle building
Flotsam and jetsam of treasure
A sea of books
Haphazardly strewn
Testing you, teasing you
Can you really identify riches
When you see it?
An old book lay in my hands,
You sense the nostalgia,
And smile
‘The book will convey the message,’
The anchor long left behind
There was little more to carry
Than musty memories
‘That you yearn is enough -
The bookstore will be happy now
It gave away a part of its heart
To the right mourner,’
The flight starts - clouds float
Where my city stood
Just a few seconds ago…
